Will it work on my Mac?

What does Carve need to run?
A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Carve asks for Screen Recording so it can read the window you point it at, and Accessibility so it can find real controls and, only when you say do it, act on them. Both are off until you grant them and can be revoked in System Settings at any time.
Which apps does it work in?
Carve works in one window at a time, in ordinary Mac apps and web pages. It needs that window in front to click or type, so if you move to another window it waits and shows which window it is waiting on. During the beta we have qualified short tasks in Safari and Chrome, Finder, TextEdit, Google Docs and Google Sheets. Other apps often work for Explain, and Carve tells you honestly when it can only estimate where something is.
What gets sent to the AI service?
When you press the shortcut, the window you chose and the task you described are sent to the hosted AI service so it can answer or plan. Your task history and receipts are stored on your Mac. Carve Cloud relays requests and records usage counts, not content. The privacy policy lists exactly what is sent and kept.
Can it send emails, buy things, or delete files?
Not in this beta. Ask Carve to send an email and it will address it, write it, and stop at Send, then hand that click to you. The same goes for paying, deleting, signing in, and other consequential steps: the launch build classifies them as it goes and refuses to take them itself, and the receipt says exactly where it stopped. This is a deliberate boundary while Carve earns trust, not a permanent limit. It never widens its own permissions.
What happens when it gets stuck?
It says so, plainly. A task can end finished, partly finished, or blocked, and the receipt separates “Carve made a result” from “the whole task is done.” You can edit the request and try again, take over by typing, or stop with ⌘⇧..
Do I need an account or an API key?
Verify your email to try Carve. No credit card or API key is required. Your beta trial includes five short task credits and 50 Guide questions, lasting seven days from your first task. The allowance follows your account across Macs. Longer tasks may use additional credits with your approval. There are no automatic charges. During the private beta, contact support if you need more time or allowance.
Does it work offline?
Explain and Take action need the AI service, so they need a connection. Your history and receipts are always readable offline.
